Ladies and Gentlemen this is KazmaKid reporting live from TPG. Tonight’s story, League of Legends the highly popular MOBA has been infested by the epidemic of, douchebags, assholes and downright people who just don’t give a fuck. We here at TPG will remember this as a sad day for the history books of Demacia….
Yes, it is sadly true. LoL, a personal favorite, has come to its fruition of hype and thus been tainted by a greater population. A population of people who really are just angry, a people who actually are “just really mad bro”. I don’t know what it is exactly but I know there are many who agree with me. Sadly, this type of experience is disheartening to the mainstream players (summoners) who are really just looking for fun play and not just a waste of 20 minutes (or possibly more due to continuous troll surrender blocks). It’s becoming out of control and I feel it is important to take a step back and see the great opportunity we have to learn from such an epidemic. Why are so many people just refusing to cooperate? How are so many people just going AFK? Why do people consider normal and even some ranked games as an easy excuse to auto lock and then just infuriate the rest of their teammates? An important step for some would be to first define: What is a gamer Troll?
Troll as defined by TPG:
Terrible-literally awful. I mean lets start things off simple…think of your favorite person in the world and then think of the complete opposite of that.
Relentless-They will not stop. They will not stop. They will not stop. They will not stop….no matter what….They will not stop.
Oblivious-Whether they think they are trying to be funny or are actually that dumb, they truly are unaware of the filth they are spewing in the gaming community.
Limitless-Thousands. They spawn like zerglings. They are all ages coming from all countries…they swarm infecting the dignity and righteousness of competitive gameplay.
Low-lifes– Clearly, they have nothing better to do. Is it really that fun to mess with people for no reason? I like jokes, we all like jokes, but no one likes annoyances.
To make myself clearer I can also describe them by doing what 90% of gamers always do when trying to obtain a greater insight by giving you the Wikipedia definition of “troll”.
Described by Wikipedia: In Internet slang, a troll (pron.: /ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
Now as mentioned I think this brings to surface an issue that most players understand and generally tolerate. People usually say “well its just part of it” or “whatever I’m just going to ignore them”. I think that’s fine and dandy but the problem is it evokes a certain tolerance that will only continue to break the system. Learning to accept it is the same as being defeated by trolls and learning to ignore it is halfway there.
So how do we combat this flood of monsters? I think it may be easier than we perceive. Let me begin by saying WE ALL GET ANGRY. For example in MOBA’s such as LoL we all fuck up, and we all love pointing the finger at that shitty jungler, or that support who seems to have a hard on for ks-ing his ADC. Or in MMO’s when that damn tank just loves to pull the entire world…or just that paladin, because everyone loves blaming paladins….
Shit happens—and we sometime misidentify people who just fuck up with people who are intentionally trolling. Anger leads to more anger and before you know it everyone is ripping into everyone. Soon, the heat of the game has lead to an inevitable surrender or a terrible wipe.
Control yourself—Angry is the lube that propagates the procreation of trolls. It can be the difference between a simple loss and you destroying your Logitech wireless mouse in a fit of uncontrollable rage. Here’s a hint: Laugh a little bit, I love games but understand it is still just a game and not worth losing your cool.
Awareness—try to be aware of what is happening. There is a way to control this flooding and being aware is the blue key. I love competition and I hate losing. So it’s easy to forget where you head is at and go off on that douche that keeps farming your lane. BUT TRY to relax and work figure out how to handle it. Be aware of what is happening and decide how to rectify it.
If you become a troll out of anger or just feel like being that kind of person please I beg you to reconsider. It’s ruining the fun for everyone and if you really like just messing around understand your ruining a lot of people’s experience for very little gain. Respect the fact that to some people, it means a lot to work together cooperatively and, me included, actually find that portion of the game more enjoyable.
I have to give a shout out to Nhan-Fiction for his entire blog but mainly his article describing a lighter version of trolling. The article discusses some key important attitude problems that some summoners have to deal with. Here’s the Link:
So remember, in efforts to try to obtain a functional attitude it is important to respect the gaming world and community in promoting positivity, teamwork, and a cordial mentality. It’s a great feeling to actually have a team where everyone is actually on the same page. When someone says “gg it was fun!” instead of “you fucking dick learn to play, noob”. From personal experience I can confidently say it is a more rewarding feeling to actually meet a great, kind player then to get a laugh at the expense of everyone else. Don’t troll, just game on.
